Why is you quote and/or rates so much lower that the others I received for our project?
Several reasons. We don't maintain extensive overhead, we are a lean operation. So you ant
NOT paying for a receptionist, a sales person, etc. Two; while we maintain the basic gear we
need (i.e. Camera, Lights, audio gear) we obtain additional equipment or facilities (i.e. Dolly,
studio) on "as-needed" basis as a project requires, there we (and thus you) are not paying to
maintain a studio that may be under-used. Third; when needed, we find "out-of-the-box" ways of
doing things, rather than going by-the-book. In the production industry, costs can often be
dictated by the status-quo way things are done by everyone, but we don't do it like "everyone".
We take at look at each element of a production, look at the way "its done by everyone" and see
if there are alternatives that cost less with the same results.
Who will own the Copyright?
Our services are provided as 'Work for Hire', therefore you own the rights to all completed
work.
Can you service areas outside of Greater Toronto Area.
We have been hired to work across Canada, the U.S., even Mexico (we take this as a
compliment that we are so great to work with that clients will "travel us" rather than hire a local
company; and our reasonable and economical rate often puts cots on par with locals).
How long does it take to produce a video?
This really depends on the project; a simple project such as an event video (i.e. shooting a speaker at a seminar) can
takes only days to "turn around" (in some cases we have even done it in hours); a more complex project can take several
weeks. Often the speed we can and do work at is dictated by the client; approvals are needed along the way (such as
script approval, rough cut, looking for things in shot that shouldn't be there, etc.) and these approvals may be made by a
single person or a hierarchy of management or even a committee.
Will you put the video(s) you produce for us on to your website as a sample of your work?
Not without your express permission, and your ongoing permission. We have many hundreds of videos, small and large,
that we have produced that are NOT on our sample page; you will see big-name corporate clients on our client list page,
yet no sample of the work on our sample video page. It is a matter of client privacy, perhaps the material/video was
intended for in-house use only or only distributed, as a sales tool, to limited would-be clients. We have learned that
Confidentiality, and respect for it, is a large factor in video production.
Can we shoot our own footage and have you do the editing?
This is one way to minimize costs, but often only a professional can achieve professional results with regards to lighting,
framing, sound and direction. It is rare that 'bad or mediocre footage' can be made to look great.
How do you think I choose a video production company?
We think that you need to ask these questions when selecting a video production company:
• Do you like their demo reel?
• Did they answer all your video questions?
• Can they do it for a reasonable price?
• Do they have the experience to tackle your project?
• Can they meet your deadline?
• Do they understand your business?
• Can they show you a comprehensive client list?
My nephew / son-in-law / intern / friend of my golf-partner has editing software and can make me a video for
nothing, why would I hire you?
I just had this question the other day when making a sales call to a sports organization. So I asked, when was the event
(when did you shoot the footage); it was 9 months previous and the organization still didn't have the video they wanted
done and up on their website. So why hire us? Well, you will pay (not much), sorry... but it will get done. Yes, most
amateur 'techies' have the same edit software we do, and sometimes even the editing skills; but they are doing the work
"in their spare time", don't have the same commitment to get it done and, because they are doing it as a "favour" you often
can't 'push' when its not getting done. At Dazzle Productions, we are professionals; we give a reasonable deadline and
then get it done.
Why does you website talk about "Experience" so much?
When we first started in the video production business, the cost of both cameras and editing equipment was quite
expensive, thus only those who could make and maintain a good business case for earing a living making video got into
the business. That is no longer the case. Most cameras that a consumer can pick-up at the local Walmart can,
technologically, shoot excellent quality video. Even the cheapest laptop computer can run decent editing software. But
that doesn't make everyone a great 'shooter' and editor, just the same way that having an canvas and paints doesn't make
a great painter. But yet the number of 'video production companies' are proliferating and mostly started by people who
have the gear and hope that, when given a project, they will deliver a great final product. But video production is far more
that just the camera, lights and an edit program. Its creative problem solving and its project management.
Hire a production company without experience and you MIGHT get a great final product eventually and over-budget;
because as they hit each bump-in-the-road the costs go up and the deadline slides. Hire a video production company
with Experience, the experience of producing hundred of videos of all types, dozen of the type you are considering, and
we will have already hit all those bumps, solved them (without losing time and or money) know how to avoid them of
solve them already. Hire a video production company with Experience, and you know you'll get the exact video you want
on-time,and on-budget.
Dazzle Productions has 20 years of experience, produced hundreds of video for hundreds of clients, of every genre and
type.
